Discharge Pipe

Discharge pipe carries water, effluent or sewage to a specific point from pumps or ejectors. This pipe is under pressure intermittently and can vary in size depending on application.
In some situations, the building drain is lower in elevation than the sewer main or septic systems. In other instances, various municipalities are opting for pressurized sanitary waste systems as the delivery method to the sewer main. In these situations, the sump, which is a collection container, is installed in the ground, or floor, with a grinder pump (ejector) or a solids pump that pushes the waste directly to the sewer main, septic tank, or a gravity drain.
Similar systems are utilized in an assortment of scenarios to move water from collection points to a more desirable location, such as a storm sewer or an approved trench. Some examples of these scenarios could be basements with flood risk, condensation removal, or ground water collection systems.
The discharge pipe connected to pumps will have at least one check valve and one shutoff valve installed at a discharge connection. These valves need replacing eventually and as with any piping, good connections during installation cannot be emphasized enough. That being said, the most common issues with these discharge pipes are the pumps that are feeding them. These pumps are mechanical devices; therefore, they will require maintenance and eventual replacement. High quality models and materials will prolong and minimize this. These devices will be equipped with back up switches and alarms to prevent and warn of any problems that may occur. Reliability is important with this equipment; therefore, it is suggested to invest in the best.
Discharge pipe is similar to other buried plumbing installations, in terms of methods, however, the circumstances can be broader. A client should expect to invest around $0000__ for a full system install from sump to waste or storm, sewer, complete with design, pipe, pump and electrical connection. For a ground water removal system that is all outside and not connecting to a municipality’s disposal system prices start at __$0000. Pipe install alone ranges from __$0000 and __$0000__.
